Shit, a woman needn't bother her pretty lil' head with an education or job. All she has to do is stay thin enough to get a husband, be a good wife for a few years, and then leave him and take half of his stuff. That, you see, is a woman's career. Is that really so difficult to understand?

Wow! You are truly inspirational!! I absolutely agree with you. I recently bought my own place because I did not want to drop money on rent. And if I can afford it, then why not?! I have come to that same realization that I cannot wait for a man to make me happy. I have to make myself happy. But, every once in a while, when my biological clock starts to tick, I get a little sentimental...but then I just hit the snooze button and move on with my life.

Hey Brad K...thanks for your intelligent and thoughtful comment.

And to Badgerbob...You can have that anywhere if you can prove that you have a 10 inch long and 7 inch in diameter penis.

Nym, you must stop putting these ideas, of independence, into women's heads. You could possibly ruin my master plan of having a worldwide harem. Where no matter where I am, all I have to do is snap my fingers, and women will converge on me from all directions, clad only in smiles, and bearing gifts, and/or food.

You ask, "What kind of sick ideas are put into girls’ heads as they grow up?" I am pretty sure that my Mother, TV, records, magazines, and school chums did it to my sister, she and TV and movies and CD's and school chums did it to my nieces .. and nephews.

In times past girls were raised to expect to be married off, anything else was a 'sordid' life choice. Unless the girl stayed an old maid to care for the parents in old age.

For your friend and her dream condo, the reality is that guys don't know much better. The myth of the American Home with White Picket Fence is pretty pervasive. The problem is that we teach girls and boys that looking and acting 'hot' -- desirable, provocative -- is the expected social behavior for adolescents. That *attracting* the 'hottest' guy is *success*.

Then when someone makes a connection, no one knows how to stop making like a rabid virginette looking for 'satisfaction', and how to make a home with a responsible partner.

In times past, the wife usually got dragooned into whatever Hubby did -- farm, raise crops, run a store. Today Hubby usually can't or won't let Dearie near his workplace. This leaves the wreckage of the old admonition to girls, "Be a wife to your husband" in disarray, because no one knows how anymore, and there just isn't much place for a wife to support her husband's career. And the so-called 'modern' approach of the woman defining her own role, and combining with her husband's home just isn't complete, for most people. We are mostly confused, we have to make up our own answers, and because we are less convinced we are doing right, we let others change our minds right and left.

Of course it looks confusing and destructive.
