IF YOU’VE WONDERED WHAT SELF-CARE AND SELF-LOVE LOOK LIKE IN PRACTICE, YOU’RE NOT ALONE

Taking care of ourselves is something that we’ve always needed to do, but that’s only become ‘okay’ or even ‘cool’ to do relatively recently. We typically associated self-care with being ‘selfish’ or ‘new age’. It’s also commonly associated with going for a massage or treating ourselves to something nice. These can be good things to do, but self-care is so much more than this. It’s a fundamental part of living a life that’s in harmony with our values, and that brings us fulfilment, joy… and the ability to discern what we do and don’t want to do.

THERE’S SOMETHING THAT SO MANY OF US FIND DIFFICULT TO ADMIT, THOUGH: THAT WE FIND SELF-CARE AND ADVICE ABOUT LOVING OURSELVES VERY DIFFICULT TO PUT INTO PRACTICE.

It’s all well and good when life is going swimmingly, but when we feel as if we’re being hit from all sides by stress in various areas of our life, being kind to ourselves, our new morning routine, the affirmations, yoga, gratitude journals or whatever else, go right out the window.

There’s also the elephant in the room that’s often ignored by self-care advice: the need for us to address old habits so that we can heal and release any emotional baggage that’s affecting the way in which we treat and regard ourselves, as well as the choices that we make.

If we’ve led a life so far that has little or no trauma, stable family, friends and romantic relationships, general self-care advice might hit the spot. But, what I found time and again was that there are lots of people like me: folks who have invested in figuring out their lives, in trying to break free of their pasts, who thanks to a lifetime of people-pleasing, perfectionism and old wounds, need to figure out things like boundaries, conflict, trust and resisting self-sabotage when the going is good.

DESPITE OUR BEST INTENTIONS, SOMETIMES OUR INNER CRITIC GETS THE BETTER OF US AND DERAILS SELF-CARE.

DO YOU…

  • Sometimes wish you’d had a different experience growing up so that you’d know what to do in the life situations where you feel lost, confused, foolish or even ashamed?
  • Struggle with listening to yourself, discerning healthy relationships from unhealthy ones, or with knowing if you’re on the right path?
  • Try out something in an attempt to practice self-care and then feel disillusioned if you still feel the same or problems don’t go away?
  • Know what you need to do in certain situations but then bail out of fear that having boundaries, voicing your needs or being more of who you really are, will cause problems or abandonment?
  • Feel stuck in the same frustrating patterns and cycles of disappointment?
  • Worry about how to handle situations that you believe have the potential for conflict and criticism?

I get it. I know how frustrating it can be, especially because it’s tempting to compare, to be impatient and, yes, to wonder if you’re “doing it wrong”.  Help is at hand.

FAQ

What is the Reclaimer Membership?
Reclaimer Membership is a subscription for people who want to break habits that have affected their relationships and self-esteem. The membership helps you to build consistent self-care habits by helping you to manage your boundaries with confidence. Enjoy new content each month, access to courses like Embrace Healthy Boundaries, monthly Q&A sessions and community in the secret Facebook group.

How is the Reclaimer Membership delivered?
Everything is hosted in a membership portal. Log in, click on Reclaimer Membership and, boom, everything is there. Access on your computer, smartphone or tablet. You can download all of the audio and resources, too. Office Hours is typically done via email – you email me, I respond back — all nice and straightforward. There’s also the Facebook group for community support.

Is Reclaimer Membership for me?
If you give yourself a hard time about not being where you want to be in life, or you struggle with people-pleasing, perfectionism, and not getting sucked into situations that aren’t in your best interests, Reclaimer Membership offers up the structure and guidance to see an end in sight to these habits running your life. It works alongside anything else you might be doing to support you in your endeavours to become more of who you really are or to break out of a pattern — and the membership will help you to become consistent at self-care instead of it being an afterthought or fad.

How much of my time will the Reclaimer Membership require each month?
That’s entirely up to you. I don’t want you to give yourself yet another thing to give you a hard time over. I encourage members to put aside a little time each month so that they can honour their commitment to take care of themselves, but there’s no schedule, and it’s not a course with classes where you’ve got to show up or turn in homework. Listen, watch or read whenever you want. Life’s stresses don’t arrive in just one month of the year so you might find that you really dive in when you’re navigating a challenge.

Do I need to finish the content each month?
No. You have access to all of the content that was there before you joined, and any new content doesn’t disappear when the month is over.

Do I have to take part in the Facebook group?

No. It’s optional. If you do join the group, you’re free to lurk and read, or you might want to contribute by responding to other people’s posts, or you might want to post in the group. It’s very relaxed. I appreciate that not everyone is into Facebook (I know I’m not!) but after years of trialling different options, FB groups have been the most effective for group discussion.

Are you (Natalie) in the Facebook group?

Yes, and I’m active in it.

I’m an existing student on one of your courses–is it mostly content from courses?

No. The masterclasses, short courses and mini classes are recorded especially for the membership plus there’s specially created content (could be audio, workbooks, worksheets, mini ebooks etc).

Can topics be suggested?

In short, yes.

I’m an existing BR School student–can I get a discount?

Yes, directly via the school website or you may have received an email about it.

Do you do special offers?

The yearly subscription offers a saving of 28% and yes, there are occasional offers that go to people on my mailing list.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Cancel at any time, no questions asked–just make sure you give 3 days notice before your next payment was due, to give us time to cancel it. Your subscription will end on the last day of your subscription period and you won’t be charged any further. No partial refunds are offered. Please note that annual subscriptions are renewed automatically but you will be given a heads-up at the end of your subscription period.

If you are in the Facebook group and are not on any other active course, you will be removed at the end of your subscription period. You can, of course, download whatever materials you need to up to the end of your period–these are obviously for your use only, not for sharing.

If I were to cancel and resubscribe and I’d previously subscribed at a discounted rate, will I get the rate again?

If you cancel and resubscribe, it will be at whatever the rate is at that time. If you’re a student on another course, you will be able to sign up on whatever the student rate is at that time, otherwise it would be the rate available publicly on www.baggagereclaim.co.uk. Exceptions to this is for members who request to pause membership due to life circumstances.
